Husky’s Side Chapter 10

Life-Saving Days by the Husky’s Side
Accurate judgements

Song Yingshi wore a light-coloured skirt and a T-shirt. Her hair that was slightly longer than her shoulders loosely fell down and she pinned her fringe up with a hairpin of the same colour as her skirt. Her entire aura was clean and cute, and coupled with her sweet looks, it was easy for people to like her the moment they laid eyes on her. Sure enough, she wasn’t called the heroine for nothing.

She was carrying a small backpack and holding an ice cream cone in her hand, eating it as she walked while looking at the stalls on both sides from time to time with great interest.

Zhou Li recalled the original plot. Probably because she hadn’t visited the market for a long time, she decided to come out to play.

Both the Song family and the Qian family originated from Xiangman Town, and Father Song and Father Qian were both one of the rare college students during that era.

The difference was that Qian Duoshu only wanted to enter a company to earn his salary. Later, the company went down, and he joined the Internet company under the recommendation from a friend. After several years of glory, he was now about to exit the playing field.

On the other hand, Father Song was not a person willing to earn a honest salary.

In that era, he worked hard independently and successfully settled down in the urban area, taking his mother with him into the city. After that, his career went further in a positive direction and he married his current wife, so he changed his residence to a villa. But Mother Song didn’t like her new daughter-in-law, so she didn’t move with him, and when she saw that her daughter-in-law was not treating her granddaughter well, she suggested that she should take care of her granddaughter after she found out that the daughter-in-law had gotten pregnant.

Thus Song Yingshi spent most of her life with her grandmother, as her grandmother was the only one who raised her.

This summer holiday was the last summer holiday she ever spent with her grandma. Because Grandma Song’s health was getting worse and worse, she knew that she might not be able to stay around for too long, so she wanted to return to the town where she lived with Grandpa Song and walk down the last road in her life peacefully.

Song Yingshi didn’t know this. She just followed her grandmother who said she wanted to go back to the suburbs to relax.

Although the Song family’s villa had been around for more than a dozen years and Father Song’s career hasn’t taken another step forward, he was still the boss of a company. Song Yingshi didn’t lack the little money earned from a part-time job. She only worked because it was to help out her classmates, going only on Saturdays and Sundays, then spending the rest of the time with her grandma and husky.

Granny Song didn’t like dogs, but she didn’t hate them either. Every time Song Yingshi went out to work, the husky was taken care of by Grandma Song. Probably because she was old, she would often reminisce about the past to the husky.

Young Master Ji was cold-hearted but he treated the elderly with more respect and patience, and so he quietly listened to many stories.

In the original novel, the scene of Song Yingshi and the husky guarding Grandma Song as she took her last breath was enough to send the reader to tears.

Grandma Song was already dying at that time and she read many things. Maybe she thought the husky was rather spiritual, she also requested him of something important. She said, that because she will no longer be around in the future, he must take good care of her child*.

[T/N: 囡囡/nan nan: little darling (term of endearment for a baby/child)]

Young Master Ji didn’t even think about it for one second and replied with the word “okay” in his heart.

He and Song Yingshi were very similar.

Their mother died unexpectedly, their father married another stepmother, their family sired vicious siblings, and they were raised by the the one kind elderly.

Ji Shaoyan’s grandfather was still alive, but he knew that sooner or later there will be such a day, so he could understand Song Yingshi’s grief.

From that moment on, the feeling of “distress” emerged in his heart towards Song Yingshi.

As Zhou Li walked forward, he thought about how he could gift Uncle Dog to Song Yingshi as soon as possible. Seeing Song Yingshi get closer and closer as she was finally about to notice the husky, he picked up Uncle Dog and covered half of his own face, leaving only a pair of opened eyes, then he raised one of Uncle Dog’s front paws and waved at Song Yingshi who was looking over.

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

Very good. This guy even used him to coax a little girl.

Song Yingshi’s eyes sparkled, as expected, and she smiled and rushed over. Seeing this husky’s face that fully displayed his absolute disgust towards humanity as a whole, she shivered from the exuding meng. She asked, “Can I pet it?”

Zhou Li put down the Uncle Dog he was holding, showing his whole face, and smiled as he said, “Of course you can.”

In Song Yingshi’s impression, he had a head of red hair so she didn’t recognize him at all just now.

But at this moment when her attention spun to him, she immediately rolled her eyes, retracted her hand that was just outstretched, then turned her head and left.

Zhou Li: “……”

This disgust value was too high. Even the desire to pet the dog had been eliminated.

But they finally met up after such difficulty, he can’t just do nothing with this chance.

He chased after her for a few steps. “Ai wait, wait up, I need to tell you something.”

Song Yingshi didn’t want to listen to anything that came from his mouth and quickly marched forward, soon reaching a stall and coming to a stop, standing beside an old woman who was chatting away. At the side, she stared at him warily.

The old woman smiled kindly and caught a glimpse of her granddaughter’s expression, then looked at the chasing teenager. She asked her granddaughter, “Your friend?”

Song Yingshi stiffly answered, “I don’t know him.”

Zhou Li stopped abruptly.

There was no shadow of Grandma Song in the information in his mind, but to be someone Song Yingshi could heavily rely on, and someone who was accompanied by a young special nurse, she must be Grandma Song.

Grandma Song has now placed a big and bold “Dangerous and Brittle” label above his head.

He didn’t dare to make any trouble and earnestly stood one meter away from them, smiling helplessly.

Grandma Song’s first impression of him was quite strong and she asked, “Are you looking at my family’s child* for something?”

[T/N: used 囡囡/darling child]

Zhou Li straightforwardly said, “En, I lost a bet with my friend a few days ago and acted offensively towards Miss Song. I wanted to apologise when I met her today.” He said, with a sincere gaze targeted at Song Yingshi, “I apologise.”

Song Yingshi stared, as if she had no idea who this guy was.

Zhou Li knew that favour wasn’t something that increased immediately with one interaction, but at least he apologised first.

He nodded to Grandma Song and politely said his goodbyes, then left with the husky.

Grandma Song looked at his back and curiously asked, “What did he do?”

Song Yingshi’s lips twitched. “Stopped me asked asked for my WeChat.”

Grandma Song smiled and sighed in her heart about how nice it was to be young, then commented, “I think that kid is pretty good.”

Song Yingshi immediately retorted, “Like hell he’s ‘pretty good’!”

Grandma Song smiled and shook her head, not giving any more explanations.

She is still very accurate when it came to judging people.

That teenager was full of self-confidence from inside to out. It can be seen that his family environment is very healthy and under such circumstances, it was generally impossible to raise too bad a child. Moreover, that teenager had such bright eyes, was generous and modest, and knew when to advance and retreat. Among all the peers in her granddaughter’s generation that she has met, he was one of the most outstanding.

The outstanding Young Master Zhou was currently walking back while introducing Song Yingshi to Young Master Ji.

He shouldn’t be too detailed, otherwise he’ll be easily suspected. He just simply introduced, “Her family lives in the city, she’s only back to play during this summer holiday. I heard her dad has found a stepmother for her, but the relationship probably isn’t that good ba, since she always lives with her granny.”

En, let them know that their situations are similar, and throw out a “city” as bait along the way.

He stroke the other’s fur and continued, “Just ignore how she was like just now. In fact, she has a very good personality and I’m preparing to send you to her for support. She will definitely take great care of you. Are you happy?”

Young Master Ji was not happy.

He somewhat suspected that this silly fool wanted to use him to pick up girls——for example, give him away, then ask the girl out in his name.

He can barely accept everything about this situation, other than the “return to the city” part. He was more than discontent to constantly watch this schizophrenic who didn’t even know when he will switch personalities.

Zhou Li didn’t know what thoughts were rolling around in this dog’s mind, so he bought a small plastic pinwheel for two dollars along the way and went home with Uncle Dog.

He took a shower first then wiped down the dog’s fur. Removing the battery from the sunflower, he put it in the cardboard box along with the small potted flowers and fixed the small pinwheel onto the box with glue. After the renovation, he placed Uncle Dog back into the nest, satisfied.

One person and one dog took an afternoon nap.

The breeze outside the window blew in and the pinwheel turned gently, as if guarding the memories of a summer afternoon with watermelon and fruit soda that were almost lost in the depths of one’s mind.

Ji Shaoyan’s ear moved slightly and he fell into a deep sleep.

He slept until evening. When he opened his eyes, he saw these three objects smiling down at him. Reluctantly standing up, he briefly stretched his limbs and saw that Zhou Li had also woken up, taken out of his sleep by the ringing of his phone.

Qian Duoshu was calling him.

He remembered that there was a market today and didn’t want to take the crowded route home. He planned to come in from another door of the apartment community and told Zhou Li to buy some food and ingredients since there were none at home.

Zhou Li replied curtly and hung up the phone, then went downstairs with Uncle Dog again.

The market was still lively but he wasn’t interested in stall shopping this time around. He went straight for the fruits and vegetables district, paused when passing by a stall, then backed up.

He had investigated the entire market before and didn’t remember this stall. It should be a newcomer.

He saw that the stall had simply spread out a piece of cloth on the ground with three kinds of vegetables, a small pile of each placed orderly, while the stall owners all nested themselves on their own fold-out stool. Each of them wore a cap and sunglasses, sitting like a quail. Counting heads, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, they were especially eye-catching.

Zhou Li: “……”

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

Zhou Li laughed out loud and suddenly felt that these little brothers of the original owner were quite talented people.

He thought that if the cold water was splashed on their heads in the morning, they would most likely be depressed for a while, but these idiotic young men were still upbeat. He didn’t know what these boys had discussed, but it actually only took one afternoon to complete the brutal transformation of “making big money and doing big things” to “selling small vegetables at a street stall”.

He tried his hardest to hold back a smile and asked, “How are you selling these vegetables?”

The idiotic teenagers kept silent, shrinking subconsciously and lowering their heads, continuing their acts as a quail.

Zhou Li said, “I’m asking you guys something. Are you done with your business?”

The quails held back for a few seconds and the one that appeared to be the leader slowly stretched out two fingers.

Zhou Li said, “Two yuan per catty* ah?” The

[T/N: jin/0.5kg]

The quails nodded, quite organised.

Zhou Li said, “Sure, give me two catties of this one.”

The leader slowly slid forward, picked up a few little vegetables and turned around, then froze.

The other six quails blinked and froze with him. One of them couldn’t hold back and slapped his thigh. “Crap, we don’t have a scale!”

Zhou Li: “……”

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

The author has something to say:

Ji Shaoyan: You are worthy of being Silly Fool’s people, each one is more stupid than the than the last.
