Husky’s Side Chapter 13

Life-Saving Days by the Husky’s Side
Kicked off

The owner of the digital camera shop was surnamed Qin and she was an enthusiastic and straightforward person.

According to her, her store was celebrating its anniversary this week and since the shopping mall happened to be engaged in promotional activities, the promotion combo resulted in a very favourable discount, therefore there was an increase in customers recently.

However, she was the only one manning the counter, a job usually meant for two or three people.

She had a niece in high school who happened to be free during this summer holiday. From Monday to Friday, there was only her niece who could come in and watch over the store, while on Saturdays and Sundays, when there were more customers, she would hire a few summer employees to help sell some stock or distribute flyers.

——She originally planned for this outcome.

But Zhou Li helped her sell two cameras in just 20 minutes with an especially professional attitude and good vision. He was too formidable. She wanted this young man to come along and help during the workdays as well.

Zhou Li rejected the offer with the excuse of having something on during the weekdays.

He came to find a job here just to gain Song Yingshi’s favour and only wanted to work on Saturdays and Sundays so he can spend the rest of the time with a certain uncle at home.

Qin-jie* didn’t force him and said, “Then if you’re not busy, you can just tell me whenever you want to work.”

[T/N: (older) Sister Qin]

Zhou Li smiled and said, “Okay. Thank you, Qin-jie.” The

While the two were chatting, a girl with long hair walked over, curiously peering at Zhou Li who was chatting with Qin-jie.

When Qin-jie saw the girl, she called the other over and gave the two teenagers a brief introduction to each other.

Zhou Li knew who she was, of course.

Qin-jie’s niece Tao Shanshan, Song Yingshi’s classmate.

Although Mingying International was called a prestigious school built under a banner with the words ‘elite education’ boldly written across it, every year the school will take in some students from ordinary families, with their tuition fees being reduced or with them being exempted from paying any fees. Tao Shanshan and Song Yingshi belonged to this category. The difference is that the former was from a really ordinary family, while the latter could afford the tuition even at its full price, but she didn’t have to as she won the scholarship herself and passed the school’s foreign recruitment examination.

The two were in the same class and had a pretty good relationship.

In the original text, Tao Shanshan learned that Song Yingshi had come to Xiangman Town, and acting on the principle of never letting one’s own fertile water flow into another’s field* by bringing friends into your workspace, she pulled Song Yingshi over.

[T/N: don’t let others benefit from something you can have]

In addition to them, Qin-jie also found another summer holiday worker.

The part-timer was a girl about to enter her second year of high school and came from the same school as them, Mingying. Similarly, she was from an ordinary family. The only difference was that she and Ji Shaoyan were in the same class.

Ji Shaoyan was the influential figure* in Mingying, and the people who covet him were too many to count.

[T/N: literally, man of the wind, which means attention grabbing]

The girl had a crush on Ji Shaoyan. Once she heard Tao Shanshan say she admired her very much and how envious she was of her for being able to see the school grass* every day, she developed a sense of superiority and acted somewhat pretentious in front of them.

[T/N: school idol, most handsome boy]

Zhou Li felt that the arrangement of this kind of female co-worker was meant to be used as a future face-slapping event at school. Now that he has been brought in, Qin-jie was afraid that she no longer needed to recruit the other girl.

According to the novel, the female co-worker’s family had some relatives working in the shopping mall’s management and it was through them that she was able to find a job. At that time, several stores were interested in sucking up to management and recruiting her. Eventually, she heard that Qin-jin also had two students from Mingying so she chose this store, not knowing if she’ll have any other intersections with Song Yingshi and the others.

But the face can be slapped at any time and his main priority was to return the husband back to the heroine as quick as possible, so Young Master Zhou was under no pressure when it came to grabbing someone else’s job. He nodded at Tao Shanshan, added Qing-jie on WeChat, then left.

Tao Shanshan watched him walk out and the first thing she did was whip out her phone to send a message to her friend: ahhhhh, my auntie has found her third summer part-timer and it’s a handsome guy. My womanly heart ahhhhh!

Song Yingshi quickly replied: More handsome than your Ji-shao*?

Tao Shanshan: Of course not. Ji-shao is forever the NO1 in my heart, but this handsome guy and Ji-shao are of different models. This one’s so sunny and eye-catching, he can be used as a concubine!

[T/N: 少/shao, means young master (I will use this title in speech parts only so it doesn’t sound stiff). Coincidentally, the ‘shao’ in Ji Shaoyan is also the character for young master]

Song Yingshi : [laughing and crying]

Tao Shanshan: I’m not lying. When you come to work this Saturday, you will know!

A somewhat speechless Song Yingshi had no idea about the surprise awaiting her during her next day at work, and only replied with a single “okay”.

The new and particularly eye-catching employee was unaware of his status as the main topic in his colleagues’ conversation. He happily returned to Xiangman Town, bought a watermelon at the open-air farmer’s market, and walked home hugging it in his arms. Seeing that the dust layer on the shoe cabinet had not been displaced at all, he was now certain that Uncle Dog really wasn’t going to attempt anything anymore.

He touched the husky’s head and took the other’s bowl to the kitchen to clean, then he sliced the watermelon and filled the bowl up with fruit, cutting a few slices for himself and putting the bowls on the coffee table before carrying the husky out to the living room.

Ji Shaoyan glanced at him, then lowered his head to eat the watermelon.

Zhou Li turned on the TV, shuffled the playing cards, then spread the deck in front of him like last time.

When Qian Duoshu was at home, the man usually hogged the TV to himself. He watched his shows for majority of the day yesterday and it was unknown which channel the TV was currently on, so that meant they can play cards.

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

Zhou Li said, “Come, I’ll give you another chance.”

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

He wanted to say there was no need, but when he thought about it, there was an abnormal unwillingness to do so. Besides, there’s no way he’ll end up on Princess Niu Hulu every time, so he randomly leaned forward and pressed down on a random card.

This time it was a seven of spades. Zhou Li happily advanced the channel seven times, only to hear the ‘yiyiyaya’ of gongs and drums, hustling and bustling noises spilling out of the speakers all at once.

Zhou Li: “……”

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

Great, it’s an opera program.

Young Master Zhou prides himself on his wide range of hobbies, but he has not yet developed interest in studying Chinese opera. After he finished gnawing on the watermelon in silence, he looked at the husky. “Eggy, are you sleepy? How about we take an afternoon nap ba!”

Ji Shaoyan looked at him with a very calm gaze.

He also originally didn’t want to listen to the opera, but he has since changed his mind.

Zhou Li wiped his hands clean and wanted to pick him up to take him back into their bedroom, only to see the other back up. He immediately knew that this young master was not willing to go with him.

Ji Shaoyan continued to look at him.

Good, this man who has aspirations to make a difference is keeping to his words.

Zhou Li leaned back against the sofa and stared at the TV, eyes blank.

Ji Shaoyan watched his expression and was instantly immersed in happiness.

One person and one dog tormented each other. Only after the show was finally over were they allowed to return to their bedroom for an afternoon break.

They slept until the evening again today. Zhou Li checked the time and remembered that the full market was on that day, so he went downstairs with the husky in his arms and bought him dinner along with some cold dishes, in case Qian Duoshi grew picky again.

But as it turned out, the moment he entered the door he saw that the coffee table had already been kicked over to its side, with all the things placed on top crashing “hualala” across the floor.

Qian Duoshu looked at him, eyes falling on the things he was carrying, and asked, “Went to buy cold dishes?”

Zhou Li said, “En, suddenly wanted to eat some.”

Qian Duoshu nodded, “Put it on the table ba. You go make some stir fry, I need to take a shower.”

His body still had its lingering tyrannical aura and his voice was a little dragged, but he seemed to be reeling them in.

Zhou Li always felt that their “one week” agreement was a little too unbearable to handle. He spared the other a glance or two, then put Uncle Dog back in the bedroom and headed into the kitchen.

From this day on, Zhou Li began to cultivate feelings with Uncle Dog.

For example, singing a song every night, brushing his teeth every morning and evening, changing out the small potted plant every other day, all the things that strived to make Uncle Dog physically and mentally happy. Although Qian Duoshu constantly had signs of a temper explosion, he supressed it down all by himself. It was peaceful for the time being, and two days later, the husky’s skin wound was basically fully healed.

Zhou Li pulled out a roll of plastic wrap and wrapped a few layers around the fixing bandage to prevent water from leaking in. That night, he finally gave Uncle Dog his bath, carefully and thoroughly washing his body. After the shower and blow drying his fur, he saw the little tail wagging gently, twice from side to side. It was a clear indicator of his good mood.

He was suddenly excited, and once he was done with drying the other’s hair he took out the golf ball, walking a couple steps away from the dog and squatting down. “Come, let’s play with the small ball.”

Ji Shaoyan sent him a “disgusted” look, having absolutely no desire to partake in such a childish game.

So the little ball “gululu” rolled over and was ignored by Uncle Dog once more.

Zhou Li was not discouraged. He felt that if he kept this uncle in a good mood every day, then even if his favourability value was still in the negatives, at least it won’t be too far from the baseline of zero. Even if he gifted this guy to Song Yingshi, his life’s safety can be guaranteed.

Feeling overjoyed at the thought of this, he lovingly held the dog’s paw in his hand and sang《Today is a good day*》with his broken gong voice. Under the other’s intense stare he said a quick “good night”, then climbed into his bed to sleep

[T/N: 今天是个好日子, sung by Song Zuying]

Ji Shaoyan simply had no idea just how many pits were in this silly fool’s brain.

He was about to lie down when he saw the clothes that were spread out with the intention of acting as his bed. Thinking about how he had been lying on them for several days, he didn’t want to roll around on it anymore after taking a shower today. He slowly waddled out of the box and turned his eyes to the bed.

This was a bed with a height of around half a meter, but luckily there were a few shoe boxes stacked by the corner, which should be enough to be used as leverage.

He patiently waited. Guessing that the silly fool should be deep asleep by now, he climbed up with light limbs and found a place by the foot of the bed, then flopped down with satisfaction, thinking that he’ll just return to his nest tomorrow morning.

Who would’ve expected that at this moment, a certain someone flipped over and stretched out one foot, kicking him off with a “baji*”.

[T/N: squish/squeak, like a squeaky plush toy]

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

He was caught off guard and couldn’t hold back the cry that was kicked out of him.

Zhou Li was dead asleep before he was suddenly woken up. Turning on the lamp, he found a husky sprawled on the ground.

Ji Shaoyan and the boy stared at each other for two seconds. He supposed that the other might not let a dog onto his bed. While he was thinking about whether or not to hold on for a while longer, he saw this silly fool getting up and out of his bed, picking his dog-self up and placing him beside his pillow, gently stroking his fur. Then he switched off the lights once again and went back to sleep.

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

It’s this easy?

He peered at the person lying close to himself, slightly surprised, but before he could make an evaluation in his heart, he saw that the other person sit up and switch on the light again and staring at him with serious eyes.

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

Oh, you’re only reacting now?

Zhou Li squinted. “Eggy.”

Ji Shaoyan looked at him again, waiting for the other to carry himself back to his nest.

Zhou Li said, “You…did you cry out just now?”

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

The author has something to say:

Ji Shaoyan: This silly fool is pure, 100% pure

  1. JSY is a hard one to win over but to be fair, Zhou Li is overall atrocious at it to begin with! I think the risk of death went away a while ago though- all JSY wanted was to get away from his “crazy” captor! Perhaps this is the start of looking past that?

Thanks for your hard work translating!
