Husky’s Side Chapter 25

Life-Saving Days by the Husky’s Side
Online troll

Although it hasn’t been long since the level started and everyone had only walked a few steps, to be suddenly sent back to the starting point caused some people to vomit a mouthful of black blood.

After Song Yingshi registered her ID with the name “San Yue*” she exchanged usernames with Zhou Li on WeChat.

[T/N: 三月/third month/March, the month of her birthday]

She didn’t have a hobby of gossiping but she knew everyone who was currently contributing to this rumour mill and they were even talking about big melons, which quickly absorbed her attention. At this time, seeing them talk about Young Master Ji’s car accident, she couldn’t help but let out an “ah” in surprise, and immediately afterwards she was sent back to the entrance by Zhou Li’s grand performance, and now she had to walk into the maze again.

Song Yingshi, who has not even taken one breath in yet: “……”

Ji Shaoyan, who was crouching on the sidelines and waiting for the following messages: “……”

This person with pits in his head really knew when to pick the time.

The culprit who had accumulated the hatred of all the players with the gift of a star was currently wondering whether to laugh or cry at his phone.

He had wanted to give them a bursting-with-love me me da* but who could’ve expected the system to choose the bad ending. He was also very innocent ah.

[T/N: onomatopoeia for kiss like ‘chu’ or ‘xoxo’]

Of course, ‘all players’ also included himself. He stood at the starting point and was not in a hurry to move forward, however, just as he was about to say a quick apology he heard a “ding” and saw a small box popped up on the screen announcing that he had obtained one point.

He looked at this number “1” and felt an eery sense of malicious intention.

In the game, after a long queue of ellipsis and an uncivilised word, there was finally some substance, but instead of expressing opinions on their current emergency, they had gone straight to the previous topic.

Dan Ya Lan: What did you guys say just before? Ji-shao was in a car accident???

Dan Ya Lan: When did this happen?

San Yue: Is this the Ji-shao that I know?

Tang Xin Tian: Oh, it seems like Mingying’s little fangirls have also entered the game.

Song Yingshi pursed her lips.

She was not Ji Shaoyan’s fangirl but the gods made her be friends with some guy’s fan, so she might as well ask on behalf of another.

Not many people from Mingying went to the academic gathering earlier today and even fewer had entered this game through the flyer, but Ji Shaoyan was still the face of Mingying. Once these group of teens returned to their senses, the chat box bubbled with activity, all asking about the specific situation.

Zheng San saw that the one named “Li” didn’t appear and guessed that the person probably had a guilty conscience.

He was too lazy to care, so his attention turned back to the topic.

Zheng San: Let me tell you guys, your Ji-shao was in a car accident just after the start of this break. He hasn’t been discharged since he was admitted to the hospital, and I heard his situation is not good, that’s he’s stuck in a coma. How is he now? You guys should ask Jing-shao and Yan-shao for an update or two.

The two names that were put in the spotlight overtook the chatroom.

Jing Shao: Don’t, Xiao-Yan and I also have no idea. It’s useless to ask us.

The second generations did not buy it. Not one of them believed him.

Jing-shao, real name being Liang Jingxiu, and Yan-shao, real name being Yan Yunhui, were Young Master Ji’s childhood friends and all their families were friends with each other. The relationship between the three boys have always been good.

After Young Master Ji’s accident, the Ji family’s grandpa declined all visits with the excuse being that “his grandson needs to rest”. Even relatives in the Ji family were not allowed to see Young Master Ji’s appearance, yet these two have been to the hospital at least three times so far. Saying that they don’t know Young Master Ji’s situation, who would believe that!

Tang Xin Tian: I remember that I saw Jing-shao in the hospital not too long ago?

Jing Shao: Oh, you’re talking about that day ah. Yes, I did go to see A-Yan.

Tang Xin Tian: See ba, and you say you don’t know!

Liu Xiao Wei: Exactly!

Jing Shao: You’re accusing me wrongly, listen to what I have to say ah. I bought a bouquet of flowers that day, had my hair specially styled, bought new clothes, all to visit A-Yan with a sincere heart. However, I was turned back when I walked to the door of his ward. I am so upset that I haven’t eaten for several days.

Tang Xin Tian: ……

The second generations and Mingying’s people immediately bombarded him together because this guy has never been serious. There was no truth that came out of his mouth.

But they didn’t bombard for long and soon began to call another person in the know. Yan Shao was as gentle as Ji-shao, as a real person should, so maybe they would be able to get something from him.

Dan Ya Lan: Yan-shao, we are genuinely worried about Ji-shao. If it’s not convenient for you to say, can’t you just tell us whether he is out of life-threatening danger right now? I beg you.

Qing Lin: Yan-shao [pitiful]

Xiao Yan: Sorry, I don’t know either.

Zheng San: So, the situation really isn’t optimistic bei. Otherwise, why didn’t he come today?

Jing Shao: How can we guess what goes on in his mind?

Zheng San: Fine ba, is Xiao-Yang here? Call Xiao-Yang out.

Ji Er: I’m here.

Zheng San: If they aren’t telling, then you tell. Why didn’t your brother come?

Ji Er: Jing-shao already told you ah, it’s hard to guess what’s in my brother’s head.

Ji Er: Also, don’t ask me how he is. My grandpa doesn’t want too many people to disturb his recuperation so I haven’t been to the hospital recently.

Ji Shaoyan looked at the chatroom, slightly surprised.

His little brother has always been stupid and has always been jealous of him.

He finally got himself in trouble this time around. According to his stupid little brother’s character there was an 80% chance that he would take the opportunity to say something suggestive like “he is going to die.” Who knew how he was able to hold it back. Was it from their grandpa’s beating, or was it an idea from the mastermind behind him?

No matter what it was, there was at least one thing he can be sure of: his body was very likely currently stuck in a coma.

After he entered this husky’s body, what worried him the most was that the husky ended up occupying his body. Just thinking about it disgusted him. Fortunately, this outcome never came to fruition.

Because there isn’t a wall in the world which doesn’t have a crack*.

[T/N: the truth will be revealed sooner or later]

If the husky had really had woken up in his body, he will need to worry about how the news of his madness had already spread around in the public. Since there was only a rumour of a coma right now then that meant he must be in a coma.

Young Master Ji was somewhat satisfied and continued to watch Song Yingshi play the game.

At this time, he heard the WeChat notification sound. Song Yingshi switched over to the app and saw Tao Shanshan send the following: Ahhhhhh my family’s Ji-shao was in a car accident, I am heartbroken!!!

Song Yingshi: How did you know?

Tao Shanshan: Look at the group, the chat is going crazy. They said that some people heard Jing-shao and the others talk about it in some game. The game flyer was handed out at the get together today and there’s only one invitation code for each slip, so once you use it it’s just trash. We can’t get in at all and can only rely on them to stay updated on the situation, but I heard that it’s not optimistic. My Ji-shao ahhhhh!

Song Yingshi: Uh…I’m also in the game.

Tao Shanshan: !!!

Tao Shanshan: How are you in?

Song Yingshi couldn’t recite everything and simply explained that Zhou Li came across the flyer by accident and found it interesting, so he took one for her as well.

Tao Shanshan: Then, does he have any extras?

Song Yingshi: Don’t know, you can try asking him.

Tao Shanshan threw out an “okay” and ran off to ask.

Zhou Li was one to do things rather excessively. Because he had kept his little followers in mind, he had taken a few more slips.

But he has since thrown them all away into the trash can when he gave up on the idea of inviting his little brothers to play. Qian Duoshu had previously entered his room to pick up the watermelon peels he had gnawed on to throw them in the rubbish bin before he left to play cards. It was currently unknown which trash can those flyers were lying in.

No matter how carefree his life was, he never developed an interest in flipping through the rubbish, so he could only regretfully reply that he did not have any spares.

Tao Shanshan immediately broke out in tears, turning around to run back to Song Yingshi’s side as she cried “ying ying ying”, then asked her friend to help her inquire about Young Master Ji’s situation. At the same time, she couldn’t help but say: Are you really sure he doesn’t have any ideas towards you? I don’t usually pay attention to him ah, but he thinks of you when there’s something fun, he doesn’t think of me at all [Sob]

Song Yingshi helplessly replied: Really.

Tao Shanshan: [Sob][Sob][Sob]

Ji Shaoyan observed them from the sideline and sensed he had found a blind spot.

Compared with Song Yingshi, Silly Fool had a better relationship with his little brothers. According to the profiles of that group of little hooligans, they definitely would have jumped into the game to cause a ruckus the moment they received the flyers, but he has not yet seen a sliver of a shadow from those rowdy boys in-game. This proved that Silly Fool most likely only contacted Song Yingshi alone.

Why?

He coldly glanced at Song Yingshi.

Song Yingshi didn’t notice anything, still too busy patiently comforting her friend.

The two talked about topics starting from Ji-shao, all the way to Zhou Er-shao. They had never thought that reality could be so dog-blooded*. There really was a rich and powerful family that brought home the wrong child, and they don’t even know if the real child can be found and brought back, not to mention what will happen with Zhou Er-shao in the future.

[T/N: angsty, almost unbelievably so]

Ji Shaoyan watched them chat endlessly. The two girls seemingly appeared to have forgotten all about the game, and he suddenly became even more upset.

He flopped down on the sofa and said to himself, ‘this is enough’. When they go out for a walk tomorrow, he will run off to find Silly Fool himself.

At this moment, the silly fool that was targeted found another treasure chest.

The first level of the maze was stacked full of treasure chests and opening them could get you keys, points, props, scratch lotteries, and other weird things. This time he pulled out a scratch lotteries, which revealed the words “better luck next time” once the paint was chipped off, and thus he continued to move forward.

The messages in the message box were still swishing, although the subject had changed.

As long as the second generations were not too mentally handicapped or too arrogant, they will usually stay on the right side of things. A group of people had the rare opportunity to gather at the same place today and thought about taking advantage of this to ask Young Master Jing and the others. But in the end, they were unable to pull out even one useful word and they understood that these people were very unwilling to give out any information, so they went with the flow and started to talk about other things. Only Young Master Ji’s fangirls continued to cause trouble, crying from time to time in the chat.

Zhou Li was not interested in the new conversational topic, so he concentrated on playing the game. He quickly opened three boxes and got a scratch lottery, a hat, and a rose.

The lottery was another “better luck next time” while the hat was thrown into his inventory. The rose was an item that could be given away and increase the value of friendship with another player.

He also threw it in his inventory for the time being and chose a path when he came across a fork in the road, then saw another treasure chest after only a few steps.

He tapped to open and had another screen of options pop up in front of him once again, just like the previous one. Although he was briefly entangled in his decisions, his curiosity won over in the end, and like before, he chose ‘2’.

Song Yingshi returned with the mission issued by her friend and subconsciously glanced at the chatroom.

When Ji Shaoyan scanned her phone screen, he stood up to observe again, only to see someone send out a long line of crying emojis in the chat. The kids from other schools really couldn’t hold back, with messages bubbling as they typed.

Ba Zhong Ba: If you are so worried, just go to the hospital tomorrow youself and ask the relatives. It’s useless to cry here. Can we just talk about the game? What have you guys found?

The moment this line was sent, the system flashed a golden announcement. It was like a reincarnation.

[System] The meteor is falling, the beauty is transient, player [Li] presents a [Star Spur] to all players. Congratulations to all players for returning back to the starting point.

Song Yingshi: “……”

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

Everyone else: “……”

The first time, they had only walked a few metres. It was bearable.

This time, they don’t know how far they had walked out, and the string labelled “sanity” in everyone’s mind snapped with a “pa”. They felt that this ‘present’ wasn’t designed for them to play, but to play them.

Song Yingshi was speechless. Just as she was about to send out “What’s the matter with you”, she saw a large number of angry players start to leave “walala*” messages, cursing out a certain someone for his inhumanity.

[T/N: kind of like keyboard smash, I think]

She silently watched the chat pass by and deleted her words.

Zheng San: Where did that present come from? Give Laozi a bubble*!

[T/N: indicator of typing in chatrooms]

Zhou Li did not answer, choosing to just stare at his screen, and soon heard a familiar “ding”. Seeing that he had scored another point, he shared the results with everyone else online.

Li: I got 2 points.

Xiao Yan: ……

Jing Shao: ……

Zhou Er: ……

Quan Jie: ……

San Yue: ……

The ones with quick brains queued up for another line of ellipses once again, while the unhappy ones lost themselves in irritation.

Zheng San finally pulled his mind from its irritated state.

Zheng San: You mean, for every trip you send us back, you will get a point?

Li: En.

Zheng San: …Damn.

Ji Shaoyan was also silent.

The few people from outsider schools and Mingying didn’t know what the game was about, but they knew everything.

The old man in the Wei family was a collector of antiques, especially in calligraphy, paintings, and original works. Anything he takes out will be a fine work of art, guaranteed.

They heard that Old Man Wei was very dissatisfied with his serious and rigid juniors and felt that none of them could think like him, so he wanted to find someone pleasing from a selected group.

In their group, it was well known that Old Man Wei personally owned those antique artworks.

Therefore, at present, there were two speculations. One was that the old man was lonely and wanted to play some young’uns and throw out some antiques as a reward. The other speculation was even crazier, which was that he wanted to give all the antiques to the young’un he finds most pleasing to his eyes——according to the old man’s temper, this was absolutely possible for him.

Of course, this kind of information wasn’t something to be yelled on the streets, so the old man selected a group of teens in the ‘rich’ circle and directly sent out invitations, then went to the study gods get together to filter out another group of players.

Ji Shaoyan’s eyes swept over the number of players online.

As of now, the two separate batches of kids came together to form a small group of 42 people, but the old man only wanted to choose 10 people through the game. Once the 10 spaces were filled up by the order the players entered the fifth level, the small broken game will cease to exist.

The number of players to clear was clearly stated in the rules.

Under such circumstances, whether it were the second generations who were aware of the game’s origin or the outsiders who simply felt this game was just rather eccentric, they certainly had no interest in “sacrificing oneself to fulfil other’s happiness”, or select the option “give the players a star” just because there was nothing better to do——except for a certain someone who had pits in his head.

As a result, the pitted player spotted a method for scoring points. He could already predict the next scene.

In game, almost everyone charged forward after Zheng San’s words fell.

Screw your melon, screw your ying ying ying, screw your gossip… Everyone immediately rooted their mentality to that of grabbing the toilet just as you are about to piss your pants and rushed forward frantically, because in order to prevent others from sending you back to your hometown, you must send them back first.

The first level was made entirely of forked roads. After running farther and farther, you will not be on the same path you had travelled before and the opened treasure chests will not be refreshed. This means that every time they were sent back to their hometown, everyone will have to run farther.

But there was no other way. The keys and points can only be obtained if you’re lucky enough to hit the jackpot. Now that they knew a way to score a point, in order to get the 10 points required to reach the second level, they can only dedicate their lives to running.

There were stars labelled good or bad. The good stars could land every player one more point.

Jing Shao: Let me ask one more question, do you have one yourself?

Tang Xin Tian: No [Wailing]

Jing Shao: ……

So the good was for others to benefit, the bad was to benefit yourself, but you have to follow everyone else back to the starting point——this was too wicked!

Xue Zha Wang: Oh my god ahhhh! I was about to open the box and then you sent me back!!!

Zheng San: [Cold]

Li: Cough, I think there should be more ways of earning points later on. We don’t have to work so hard, let’s try be more harmonious.

No one bothered with him.

Towards this guy who dragged the game from “casual mode” to “hell mode” on his own, it was already pretty good that they haven’t found him in real life for a beating.

Not knowing how long they have been running, someone noticed that the colour of the floor in front of them had changed and could not help but walked over. In an instant, a message popped up from the system: Congratulations to the player [San Yue] for entering the Easter Egg section.

Jing Shao: ???

 Zheng San: What’s going on?

Song Yingshi was also very surprised. After speedily skimming through the instructions, she relayed the rules to the others.

Once you’ve progressed to a certain point on the first level, you will come across an easter egg section. When entering this section, the system will randomly select players to answer questions. One point will be awarded for every correct answer and one point will be deducted for every wrong answer.

It’s worth noting that the treasure chests in this section will only give props when opened and there were no more of the ‘choices’ pop-ups. Moreover, players who have not entered this area who send out the little teleporting stars will have no affect on the players who have already stepped into the area.

Everyone: “……”

What’s the meaning of this?

It meant that if they hadn’t “snatched the toilet” back and forth, back and forth, wasting so much time repeating their paths… Instead of opening the the chests, chatting and bragging, doing whatever, they would’ve already discovered this section by now and come running over to answer questions and score points.

All this running around gave everyone the sense of panting after exercising.

At this moment, everyone was gnashing their teeth while inhaling and exhaling calmly. It was all because of that one…because of that one player. If it hadn’t been for his sudden desire to spread the stars a whim, they would’ve all been living in harmony.

Zheng San: That Li, what school are you come from?

Li: Liuxi’s Second High.

Ba Zhong Ba: Not one of the main five? Why is someone from Liuxi here?

Li: The arrangement of fate proves that we are predestined.

Liu Xiao Wei: Who wants to be predestined with you ahhhhhh?

Ji Shaoyan watched from the side lines and was rendered completely speechless by Silly Fool.

Sure enough, there were definitely pits in his brain. He clearly meant to share the strategy guide with everyone but somehow ended up attracting the whole server’s hatred. What a way to serve evidence to his theory.

The players drowned in insanity for a while and stopped hurting each other, scrambling to enter the easter egg section.

At this time, there was a sudden but soft ringing, and a small box appeared at the top of the screen: Player [Tian Xing Tian] was hit by an Easter Egg and needs to answer a question. To prevent other players from aiding the questionee during this answering period, the message box had been locked. You may not send messages.

System: Why should the toilet have a roof? Countdown: 10 seconds.

Tian Xing Tian: Keep warm from rain and snow, keep eyes out.

System: Wrong, deducting one point. Because God* has eyes.

[T/N: the sky/heavens]

Tang Xin Tian: Ahhhhh I didn’t even score any in the first place, now it’s in the negatives!!!

The players were very sympathetic had a round of touching her head*.

[T/N: not really sure how this will work in a chatroom, probably something like “[touching your head]” followed by ‘+1’s maybe, or an emoticon]

Following that, someone else was also quickly hit by an easter egg. The question this time was “Who makes the best partnership for doubles synchronized diving?” The one who was hit by the egg was an outsider study tyrant, who answered with the name of the famous diving star currently around, but the answer was wrong yet again. The answer was ‘mother-in-law and daughter-in-law’, because they often fall into the water together*.

[T/N: have each other’s back a bit too much see Global Control’s comment for explanation; thank you very much for explaining!]

The players read these results and felt that they had stumbled across a “brain teasers” section.

But they soon realised that this was not the case, because the questions given all varied greatly. Easy or hard, it was all dependant on luck. Young Master Jing’s luck was particularly good and he was hit with a math problem, which easily scored him one point.

Zhou Li opened a chest while watching the chatbox flitter with their answers to every question. Walking around for a while, he finally realised that it was his turn.

All players looked up and read his question: Why can’t the fox stand up?

They immediately beat their chests and stamped their feet*. Who didn’t know that it’s because it’s cunning (slippery feet)* ah. Why does this thing get a question so simple? I hope you don’t know; I hope you get what’s coming to you!

[T/N: acting sadly and regretfully]
[T/N: cunning (foxes are known to be that) and slippery feet are homonyms (both pronounced jiaohua)]

Unfortunately, Zhou Li knew.

But what he knew was different to what they knew. The reason was because he had come across and read a forum regarding this exact question in his world, so typed the answer without any second thought: Because the vixen is flirty, so flirty its legs broke*.

[T/N: ZL’s answer: 因为骚,骚断腿了. This means the fox is so flirty it’s legs broke (exaggeration, like ‘scared to death’ etc.), and the replacement of fox to vixen is because vixen can also describe a flirty woman. It’s best if you search the riddle yourself since I can’t translate it properly see Global Control’s comment for more in-depth explanation; thank you again!!]

Everyone: “……”

Amazing!

Everyone’s eyes shone with stars as they waited for his points to be deducted, but the system didn’t move for a long time.

Old Man Wei had been sitting here since he entered the server. Seeing that these players did not enter the Shura Field as he expected, he was more than a little dissatisfied. He was only happy when the dot on his screen labelled with the character “Li” broke out. The answers in the easter egg section weren’t just worth a single point. If he found them interesting, he will have his subordinates add on extra points. At this moment, looking at “Li”s answer, he just slapped the table with laughter.

“I like this kid.” The old man slapped the table’s surface while saying, “He currently has 5 points ba? Just give him another 5 points, send him to the second floor.”

The subordinate looked at him: “…Really?”

The old man said, “Really!”

In the entire game, the only aspect that he could directly interfere with was the question rewards. Of course he had to add points when his mood wishes him so.

Knowing his temper, his subordinate responded.

Thus, all players saw the system give out this message: The emperor is happy, 5 points!

[System] Congratulations player [Li] for entering the second floor.

Everyone: “……”

What…why!

Zhou Li also never expected this result, but he knew that the hatred value towards him had stabilised.

Initially, while thinking that everyone would meet sooner or later, he was ready to make friends in advance. He didn’t expect the outcome to be so miserable.

The game was open from 8:00–22:00 every day.

He glanced at the time and found that it was almost ten o’clock. Not feeling like playing anymore, he sent a message: Playing up to here today, goodnight everyone.

Everyone didn’t want to say goodnight to him, and sent him off in a rush.

Zhou Li secretly commented to himself that these guys were way too grumpy and went to disconnect, but before he left, he suddenly thought about the rose. Bringing it out, he subconsciously wanting to give it to the Zhou Er, who he suspected was the child who swapped placed with him. However, after turning this thought around in his head, he hesitated.

Although he didn’t read too much of this novel, he was still a reader. And for every reader, there will be a character they liked above all others.

He likes Yan Yunhui.

Young Master Yan had a congenital heart disease and he had a calm attitude for most of the time. Unlike Ji Shaoyan, who was superficial from top to bottom, he was truly gentle and refined.

A handsome guy who was ill, beautiful, smart, and lived a cheerful life, Zhou Li felt that this character was basically the mirror image of him, so he didn’t hesitate for long before he made the decision.

And so, everyone saw the thing who had claimed to be going offline come up with bubbles again.

However, it wasn’t a message that was sent out, but an announcement from system. In an instant, agitation overtook their bodies and left them trembling, fearing that this guy had made another showy performance.

[System] Player [Li] presents player [Xiao Yan] with a rose, I don’t need a reason to like you [Heart][Heart][Heart]

Jing Shao: Huh?

Xiao Yan: ?

Tang Xin Tian: So it turned out to be Yan-shao’s superfan?

Zheng San: It can’t be that Yan-shao told him about this so that he was able to come in ba?

Xiao Yan: No, I don’t know him.

Li: It’s okay, we know each other now. I hope we can have a chance to meet in the future. Yan-shao, goodnight.

Xiao Yan: Goodnight to you, too.

Look at this. This treatment was completely different.

Zhou Li contently went offline and headed off to play with the golden retriever for a while before going to bed.

Ji Shaoyan: ???

Young Master Ji didn’t know what was going on Silly Fool’s head, but he did feel very discontent.

He was sent back after Song Yingshi went offline and slept through the night unhappily. The next day, Song Yingshi took him downstairs for their walk. He went straight to Silly Fool’s house.

The author has something to say:

Yan Yunhui: People sit at home, the pot falls from the sky.*

[T/N: getting the blame for no reason]

Young Master Ji running back to someone, countdown start =W=

Hurry, run to your owner master lover, Husky Shaoyan!

And I apologise deeply for these riddle translations, I literally have no idea how they work.

  1. As soon as the first question was asked I knew Old Man Wei and Silly Fool Zhou Li were a match made in heaven! This brainwave pattern is really too eccentric!

I sense Ji Shaoyan is starting to pickle from excessive exposure to vinegar… not that he’d ever admit he’s feeling that!

Thanks for your hard work translating!

    1. It’s good, isn’t it? That’s mean, when Ji Shaoyan brings Zhou Li to his family, Zhou Li has a high chance to be accepted by the head of the family (the grandpa) after they exchange words with their eccentric brainwave.

      Like

  2. That was fun~ hoho
Props to Zhou Li for being an expert in mind boggling ways.

I genuinely hope he’d have the person he presented the rose to as his friend 🌹

    Thanks for the update! 💕

  3. Hello! I really like this story (despite the secondhand embarassment lmao) and appreciate your efforts to translate it! A quick suggestion:

“Following that, someone else was also quickly hit by an easter egg. The question this time was “Who makes the best partnership for doubles synchronized diving?” The one who was hit by the egg was an outsider study tyrant, who answered with the name of the famous diving star currently around, but the answer was wrong yet again. The answer was ‘mother-in-law and daughter-in-law’, because they often fall into the water together.”

This bit, I think it’s because angry wives and mothers often ask their son/husband, “if i fell into the water with your mother/wife, who would you save?” What do you think?

    Thanks again for the translation!

    1. That’s a good interpretation! This riddle is really weird to translate since in Chinese culture, mothers of the wife in the family to tend to support them (I’m assuming to result in both of them living better lives after her daughter gets married into another family) and ‘fall into the water together’, or that’s at least the stereotype/what gets presented in most Chinese media. I was wondering if I should just make up an English alternative answer but decided to stick with the Chinese answer for more accuracy. Really really appreciate your comment, though! I absolutely /love/ when people manage to translate puns from another language into English and still have it make sense; the whiny undertone of “who would you save” is GOLD and this version of the riddle answer is probably more useful if it were someone translating to full English with no translator’s notes to explain Chinese terms. Thank you very much ^-^ !!

  4. Hahaha low key supporting the Yan-shao x Xiao Li CP 😂

I love how Ji-shao just runs off angrily to scold a certain cute little fool 🤣

    Thanks for the chapter ~🌸

Xiao Li and Emperor Wei are definitely destined since before they were born lol~

  5. [T/N: have each other’s back a bit too much]
No. This is because, quarreling among themselves, the mother and wife often ask the unfortunate man questions like “who would you save if we were both drowning – me and her ?!”

    1. [T/N: ZL’s answer: 因为骚,骚断腿了. The old man’s questions require wit and logical chaining. These are not common dumb word-play jokes.
Two statements common and evident in Asian culture:
      1. Fox – the spirit of flirting, seduction.
      2. After a really rough sex, the one who is below can not get up.

Accordingly, the person answering the question simply has to build a logical chain:

[a lot of flirting] = [a lot of sex] = [no getting up (out of bed)] or [so fu…ed that the legs were taken away] = [can’t stand up]

and give an answer that the reason is excessive flirtatiousness.
