TSIFB Chapter 26

Please tutor me

A light gust of wind blew pass them, occasionally lifting a few leaves from the ground. One flew all the way to Yu Baizhou’s hand, landing at the side, and the tip of the fallen leaf rested lightly on the end of his little finger.

Yu Baizhou slightly curled in his fingers. He looked at He Yan in front of him and his long eyelashes blinked doubtfully.

Prove? But…do I still need to prove?

Yu Baizhou really remembered what happened that night.

He remembered that night, he and He Yan went out on the balcony to get some fresh air after dinner. He Yan had opened a can of beer for himself, but whether it was because he looked down on his alcohol tolerance or something else, he had given Yu Baizhou a bottle of milk… En, even though he really liked to drink milk, at that time, he still wanted to try the taste of beer, so he asked He Yan, who allowed him to drink. But when he took a sip, he suddenly felt a little disappointed. Drinking a mouthful of beer was about the same as taking a mouthful of bad-smelling air. When the after-taste settled in, it felt like he had eaten a dried chilli.

Afterwards, He Yan dropped in a strawberry flavoured candy into the beer can. Still curious, he took another sip. Unexpectedly, this time he was able to taste a hint of sweetness. After the original smell of beer and the aroma of strawberry mixed together, it actually became rather novel and inexplicably attractive. It was very suitable with the light breeze that night, so, like he was possessed, he drank a few more sips, and as a result, accidentally fractured his memories.

Fortunately, he was now able to recall some fragments, and although it wasn’t all of them, the information he received was enough for him to get the rough idea of what occurred that night.

For example, with “how we are in your thoughts” and “starting from now, how about we make this our first day?”, before saying these two sentences, He Yan kept asking him what he thought of him.

Yu Baizhou had thought about it just before. If it was how they were in his thoughts, then it was obviously friends, but since the two were already friends before that night, in addition to He Yan already knowing about how he thought about their relationship, then it must mean taking it a step further. For ordinary friends to go a step further, that meant becoming good brothers! With boys, all of them could be called brothers, so that meant the so-called ‘first day’ must be the first day of being good brothers.

As for why He Yan had asked himself what he thought of him before that, it was easy to explain. It is like if one wanted to deliver their heart to another. One would be afraid that the other won’t cherish their heart once they deliver their sincerity, so before taking action, they would feel the need to confirm their position in the other’s heart. They needed to see if their placing was near the bottom, and whether or not it was worth taking the step.

First confirm carefully, then tactfully speak out. Wasn’t this just a boy with a sensitive heart who had finally mustered up the courage to genuinely deliver his heart to someone using a cautious approach?

Could he brush away someone’s sincerity? That was naturally impossible.

So although he didn’t remember the fragments near the end, he was very certain that he had agreed.

But to prove…

Prove…

Yu Baizhou stared at the person in front of him. “Can’t I just say it?”

He Yan said, “The mouth is the most deceiving thing.”

Yu Baizhou: “…”

Yu Baizhou felt that he couldn’t quite understand He Yan’s brain circuit.

Was it because at this time He Yan still had a sensitive heart? No matter what words he spoke, he couldn’t satisfy the other.

Wait, Yu Baizhou suddenly remembered, if he had to prove with his actions—”Was it that my actions in the cafeteria were still not enough to act as proof of our relationship?”

He Yan lowered his voice, “Not enough.”

Not enough?

If this wasn’t enough, did it mean it was necessary for him to take He Yan outside to perform an extravagant act as proof?

Okay, this time Yu Baizhou had completely no idea.

It just so happened that at this moment, He Yan’s phone rang. The phone had saved his life.

Yu Baizhou seized the opportunity to divert He Yan’s attention, signalling for He Yan to quickly answer the phone.

He Yan looked at the cute appearance of the person in front of him, lightly chuckled, and thought in his heart, ‘Forget it. If he’s like this at the beginning…let’s not tease him too much.’

With a hint of a laugh on the corners of his lips, he loosened his hand, and unable to resist the urge, raised a finger to lightly flick Yu Baizhou’s forehead before picking up the phone to answer the call at the side.

Yu Baizhou was sitting on the ground, dumbfounded. He raised his hand and touched his forehead that had been flicked by He Yan, as light as a dragonfly*. He didn’t know why, but his heart turned over like a wave in the sea.

[T/N: just barely grazed/lightly touched]

But, enjoying pinching someone’s chin, as well as flicking their forehead, what kind of hobby is this*?

[T/N: a fondness towards (can also mean addiction)]

After a few seconds, Yu Baizhou suddenly reacted…

He Yan acting like this, was he deliberately teasing him?

Wait, did this mean that he already believed his words??

Yu Baizhou: “…”

Fuck, it must be!

Yu Baizhou’s phone was smashed in one go by Yi Tian, but fortunately, only the phone was broken and the card was still intact. Yu Baizhou did not dare to let Fu Xia know, so he went to by the exact same type that day.

Because the old one was relatively new, after putting in the card, it looked no different from the previous one.

After the exams finished, before the results had even come out yet, a group of people were already comparing and checking various answers and to figure out their scores.

Yu Baizhou had already roughly calculated his own score during the time of the exam, so he didn’t join in. Che Cong’s grades were good, so even without calculating his score it was guaranteed for him to rank in the top five of the class every time, while Tu Gaoming was basically at the tail of the class every time, so there was no need to calculate for him.

In the past, the three of them never worried their hearts to care about the results, but unexpectedly this time, Che Cong suddenly came to ask him about his expectations for the test ranking in their class.

Yu Baizhou took into account the number of students in their class, each person’s level, as well as his own score, thought for a while, then said, “Around seventeenth or eighteenth, ba.”

There were a total of thirty-five people in their class, so it was enough to place near the middle.

Che Cong nodded, then gave a passing glance to the back door of the classroom, and said to him, “Oh, Li-ge came.”

Yu Baizhou heard the news and, as expected, spotted Li Bei by the back door. He put down his book in his hands and said to Che Cong, “Then, I’ll be leaving first. You and Old Tu follow after.”

Che Cong replied with affirmation.

Taking into consideration how there was little to no resting period in the afternoon, Yu Baizhou would remain at school after each exam every afternoon during these past few days, only returning home in the evening.

He ate all his afternoon meals with Li Bei.

Li Bei always liked to prepare the foods that the original host enjoyed to eat for him, and whenever it was someone else cooking, he would request the original’s favourite dishes. Yu Baizhou felt that he couldn’t let things go on like this, so he took the initiative to ask for something he liked.

During the meal, Li Bei handed over the apple juice that he had specifically bought for him. Yu Baizhou hesitated for a moment and thanked him, but didn’t take it.

Li Bei asked, “What’s wrong? Isn’t this your favourite thing to drink?”

Yu Baizhou decided to tell him the truth. “Actually, I prefer to drink milk.”

Li Bei froze for a few seconds, then smiled. “Okay, ba.”

The two continued to eat. Despite the incident, the atmosphere didn’t change.

Li Bei suddenly remembered something and asked Yu Baizhou, “Right, didn’t you previously say that He Yan was giving you make-up lessons? How’s it going?”

Once Li Bei brought it up, Yu Baizhou only just recalled this matter. He said, “I haven’t asked him yet.”

Li Bei hesitated for a second and asked, “Will he agree?”

Yu Baizhou shook his head. “I’m not too sure.”

He Yan didn’t have much free time. He had to study all the time and had to take care of his mother on the weekends. He wasn’t sure if this was actually possible.

“Me giving you remedial lessons?”

He Yan asked Yu Baizhou while looking at the other settle into the seat beside him.

There were only a few people in the classroom before the evening self-study session. He Yan’s deskmate had yet to arrive, so Yu Baizhou sat in his place.

Yu Baizhou nodded. He was only asking He Yan for the sake of trying.

Before, he was thinking that if there was an excuse of attending remedial lessons, Li Bei wouldn’t find it strange when he later got along with He Yan.

But at that time had he forgotten to take into account the issue of He Yan’s non-existent personal time. He Yan not only had to study, but he also had to take care of his mother.

So this time he didn’t have much hope.

But just when he thought He Yan would refuse, He Yan actually agreed, “Okay.”

Yu Baizhou was a little stunned. He asked, “But do you have time in the weekends? Don’t you have to look after Auntie?”

He Yan looked at him. “Who told you that you can only have remedial classes in the weekends?”

Yu Baizhou thought about it. He supposed that since he and He Yan were in the same class, then except for the weekend, they were bound to constantly bump into each other from Monday to Friday, so the time for remedial lessons wouldn’t be too restricted.

“Then…I’ll pay you the tuition fee. What about the length of the lessons?”

Although he had a good relationship with He Yan, he could not let He Yan suffer losses.

“Tuition fees aren’t needed, but in exchange, you have to agree with me on two conditions.”

Conditions?

Yu Baizhou said, “What conditions? You can just tell me now.”

He Yan put down the book in his hands and looked into Yu Baizhou’s eyes with a little smile on his face. “I haven’t thought about these two conditions yet. When I think of them later on, I’ll tell you.”

Yu Baizhou thought about it. “That’s fine.”

He Yan spoke up again, “I’ll focus on your weaknesses for the remedial lessons, but the length of the lessons will be decided by me. No objections?”

Yu Baizhou looked at He Yan and shook his head. “No objections, I’ll do whatever you say.”

He Yan paused, then picked up the book again and lightly tapped it against Yu Baizhou’s head. “Okay, go back to your seat.”

The two boys’ tutoring arrangements were considered to be complete.

At night, Yu Baizhou returned home. Fu Xia and Yu Chen were yet to sleep.

Fu Xia called him over, and coincidentally happened to discuss with him about tutoring matters.

Both of them knew about his grades at school. Although he had previously announced that he made up his mind to study hard, the two were still not at ease.

After all, his position had always been near the rear of the class rankings. The two were worried that his grades would not go up, or that he was progressing too slowly, which would suppress his enthusiasm for learning, so they wanted to find him a tutor.

Although there were teachers in school, there were too many people in a class, so the teachers may not be able to work with every student equally. It was more reliable to find a tutor.

Fu Xia talked about this issue while picking up a plate of snacks on the table and offered it to Yu Baizhou.

Yu Baizhou took a biscuit fed it to his mouth. “Are you looking for a tutor?”

Yu Chen closed the laptop in front of him and said, “Yes. You’re about to enter your third year of high school, if your grades don’t go up now it’ll be more difficult when you’re in your third year. I’ve already contacted several professors for you and when the time comes, I’ll have them give you a few lessons each, see whose teaching method you’re most suited for…”

Yu Baizhou listened halfway before shaking his head. “Father, there’s no need.”

Yu Chen looked at him. “En?”

Yu Baizhou said, “I’ve already found someone to give me remedial lessons. It’s my grade’s xueba, first in the grade every time.”

Fu Xia was a little curious. “How are you acquainted with the first in your grade?”

Yu Baizhou picked up another biscuit. “He’s in my class ah, even sits behind me.”

Fu Xia: “Behind you?” Why did he feel like he’s heard his son say this phrase before?

Yu Chen: “Who’s that person? What’s their name?”

Yu Baizhou fed the biscuit into his mouth, not thinking all that much as he said the person’s name. “Oh, his name’s He Yan.”

Hearing this, the biscuit that Yu Chen had just picked up crumbled into pieces.

The author has something to say:

Father Yu: “Very good, that kid delivered himself to our door all on his own.”

YBZ: compares HY to a boy who wants to confess his love
YBZ: “I would never reject a proclamation of brotherhood!”

(Also, chapter releases this week (and maybe next week, too) may be iffy since some health problems popped up recently)

  1. Tell me I’m not the only one who nearly coughed blood when I saw the word “brotherhood”?? Also, Yu Chen’s spidey sense is really off the charts lol he can already feel who’s about to poach his baby

  2. Things improve soon! Translating, as much as we readers love your efforts, is not a priority compared to that!

I second the mouthfull of blood being coughed up at the brotherhood line! Though it was expected. And it would be honestly surprising if his parents hadn’t figured things out by now! YBZ is DENSE! His own actions (literally everything about that trip, the note written to find out what happened when he was drunk, constantly mentioning HY…) betray him far too easily for his astute fathers! Good luck with that confrontation, He Yan!

  3. What’s this saying – helping somebody count the money after they’ve sold you? Yu Baizhou is the prime example of such behaviour! 😉 Ahhh, I can’t wait for the misunderstanding to be cleared. Hopefully, Little Bunny Yu Baizhou will adjust his mentality and get used to his new status (of having a boyfriend) quickly.
Thank you for the chapter and hope you’ll get better soon! ❤

  6. I suddenly thought about LB and how he’s supposedly the og’s best friend. I just wonder if he knew about the switch, how devastated he’ll be.
