Husky’s Side Chapter 7

Life-Saving Days by the Husky’s Side
Karaoke King

Although he rejected Young Master Ji, it’s not as if Zhou Li could gain the other’s favour while he sat around doing nothing. After all, it was rare for a certain uncle to express his feelings, so it was hard for him to ignore.

Therefore, once he finished taking his shower he took a small towel and soaked it in water, taking it back into the bedroom. He picked up the husky who was lying flat in the cardboard box and began wiping down his paws and fur.

This little towel was something Zhou Li dug up yesterday.

Young Master Ji had been on the run for a very large distance and was later squished into the ground by the original owner, so his body had been filthy for quite some time. It was definitely impossible for this elder to lick his fur by himself so Zhou Li helped wipe him down. Unfortunately, this young master was still unsatisfied and was dead-set on taking a shower today.

He looked at this uncle, saw that the other party was completely at his mercy but couldn’t see whether his mood was good or bad, so he tried to comfort the dog. “Bear with it for a few more days, I’ll give you a shower when you are almost fully healed.”

Ji Shaoyan stood quietly without giving any reaction .

“I have money now, you know? I’ll buy you something from Taobao* tomorrow.” Zhou Li carefully wiped his entire body and took out the ointment to apply medicine on him. Seeing the puppy still maintaining his indifferent look, he suddenly came up with an idea. “I’ll sing you a song ba, to coax you to sleep.”

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

Thanks, but no need.

Zhou Li said, “What’s that look, are you looking down on me, is that right? I, the Karaoke King, can sing the entire range of songs, from romance to hip-hop. I was born with this god-given talent…wait, don’t go, listen to me.”

He pressed down Uncle Dog, regardless of whether or not the person wanted to listen, and opened his mouth to sing.

However, he didn’t expect the condition of this shell to be so bad. It was still fine when he was only humming a little tune in a low voice but the moment the pitch went a little high, it will split like a broken gong. Even he couldn’t bear listening to this sound after only singing two lines.

Zhou Li: “……”

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

One person and one dog stared at each other in silence for five seconds. Then Zhou Li hugged the dog back into the nest. “That’s all, good night.”

Ji Shaoyan secretly suspected not only was there water in this silly fool’s head, but it also seemed to be riddled with pits. He was too lazy to pay attention to this boy and laid down to sleep.

Zhou Li washed clean the small towel and returned to his bed, leaning back against the headboard before he began to deal with his wounds.

When the old beast was furious, he did not pull his punches. He was beaten as if it were a game and the injuries he had collected throughout his entire past life may even be less that what he experienced during these past two days. While he gingerly applied the medicine, he prayed that Qian Duoshu would be killed by this revelation of his ‘personality’, so that they could live in peace with each other in the future.

The person he was thinking of at the moment was currently smoking.

Qian Duoshu sat in his dim bedroom and smoked three cigarettes consequtively in silence. He finally pressed the last cigarette out and took out his phone to dial a number, then said dumbly, “Wei, Ge, you sleeping yet? En… There’s a little problem. I heard once from sister-in-law that there was a girl in Lingpei Village who suddenly went insane and was cured by Great Master Wan in their village. Is this true? Do you know how to find him? I have a problem…nothing big, I can go by myself. Right, okay, you can just send his contacts through to my phone.”

He briefly said a goodbye and cut off the call, then sighed.

Zhou Li woke up the next day only to feel sore all over.

His mouth split into a grin and stayed that way for a while, then he got up and touched Young Master Ji’s head before leaving the room to wash up.

Qian Duoshu had to drive forty minutes to go to work and left early every day.

Zhou Li thought that since this beast was beaten black and blue last night, he might ask for a leave today, but it turned out that he wasn’t anywhere in the house. He thought to himself that this man was truly dedicated to his work, and was so happy that he took the husky downstairs for a walk after tidying up, buying their breakfast along the way.

The scrambled eggs and tomatoes stayed up all night, and each of them went back to their houses to catch up on their sleep in the morning. They all kept their conversations in the group chat, discussing about dyeing their heads in the afternoon. All of them were very resolute. Zhou Li naturally didn’t object and replied with an “okay”, and once he returned home after eating breakfast, he began to wander how to spend his time.

The original owner did not like to study nor read. His biggest hobby was being a Young and Dangerous Gangster.

Zhou Li stood in front of the bookshelf and looked for a long time, but couldn’t find even a page of a magazine. There was a computer at home which was kept in Qian Duoshu’s room, but he preferred not to go in there. His phone had apps that can be played, but apart from those two nostalgic games the rest was just plain and common applications, nothing new.

Bored.

Very bored.

The bored Young Master Zhou could only play with the dog.

He squatted in front of the box and looked at the uncle inside. “Ai, don’t you think that you’re a little too much like a vegetable for a husky?”

Ji Shaoyan didn’t even spare him a glance, pretending not to hear him.

Zhou Li refused to let him go, rummaging through the drawer of the desk and finding a golf ball. According to his given information, this was a gift that came along with a liquor package. The original owner thought it was quite novel, so he kept it.

Zhou Li was overjoyed and took the husky out of his nest, placing him on the ground. He squatted away two steps away and squeezed the small ball while saying, “See this? I will push it over to you and you will push it back to me.”

Ji Shaoyan stared at him silently.

Zhou Li ignored the look in his eyes and after giving the instructions he swiped the ball and pushed it out.

Young Master Ji squinted. The little ball “gulu gulu” rolled past him and hit the box sitting behind his dog body. Zhou Li mentally sighed, ‘Sure enough’. He even thought that the young master was finally willing to pay attention to him after last night, and that maybe his attitude towards him might have finally changed a little. Sadly and unexpectedly, his treatment remained unchanged.

He complained in his heart, waiting for the day this guy would finally knock the little ball back to him. That destined day would be the day he can, at long last, give this guy away. With no sign of dissatisfaction on the face he picked up the little ball and put it back in the drawer, then hugged the husky and said, “If you don’t want to play then let’s not play. How about you come and watch TV with me.”

Ji Shaoyan did not resist this time.

He didn’t want to lie in the box all day.

But he soon regretted this decision.

Because this silly fool didn’t watch the news. He watched the summer holiday exclusive show《Princess Niu Hulu》. The husky didn’t know what kind of jokes were said but this guy was laughing throughout the majority of his watch time, as if there were some great innuendos that only he could hear.

Zhou Li felt that things were finally fun.

Although some things in this fictional world were the same as his original world, there were also many differences. It was impossible to write down every detail in a novel, so the world most likely ended up completing itself. An example was right in front of him; 《Princess Huan Zhu》was changed to 《Princess Niu Hulu》, which entertained him overwhelmingly.

When Qian Duoshu opened the door and walked in, he saw the classic sadomasochism scenes on the TV screen and his schizophrenic son laughing until his whole body was shaking. The bleak background music mixed with crying sounds and someone’s cackling laughter, it complemented each other, in some way or another.

Qian Duoshu: “……”

He felt that his son did not have something as simple as schizophrenia.

Zhou Li and Ji Shaoyan heard his movements and turned their heads in unison. The former was slightly surprised. “You didn’t go to work?”

Qian Duoshu forced himself to calm down and explained, “I clocked in and took half a day off.”

He walked over and sat down, with hesitation on his face but no signs of speaking up.

Zhou Li said, “Just outright say what you want to say.”

Qian Duoshu said, “I heard there’s a Great Master Wan in Lingpei Village who is well-renowned…”

Zhou Li laughed.

He understood with just this one sentence. Qian Duoshu was born in a rural area and everyone here was at least a little superstitious, all believing that mental problems may be caused by the gods and ghosts.

Qian Duoshu was a bit uncomfortable.

He was an intellectual and didn’t wholly believe in these things and he also knew what schizophrenia meant, but still, he wanted to try everything that could be tested.

He was the one who had the final say in this family so the time he spent immersed in the uncomfortable atmosphere was limited. Without waiting for his son to express his opinion, he decided, “Anyway, it won’t hurt to try. I’ve already made an appointment with the master and will go pick him up. I’ll be back in ten minutes at most. “

He patted his son’s shoulder, “You, just stay at home. Don’t go outside for now. “

He thought this one-sided discussion counted as asking for his son’s opinion and took his car keys to leave.

Zhou Li subconsciously wanted to slam the door and leave, but after thinking about it, he felt it to be unnecessary. Besides, he was a little curious about how that master would exorcise evil spirits. Maybe he needed to perform a ritual dance?

He sincerely waited for ten minutes and saw that Qian Duoshu came back with a man.

The man in was fifties, dressed in ordinary clothes and smiling at Zhou Li kindly. He motioned him to sit down.

Zhou Li put the husky on the ground and quietly watched him.

Qian Duoshu kept his son’s reputation in mind and didn’t tell the truth, only saying that his son had some trouble sleeping lately. If this master was the real deal then he will definitely see the problem on his own, and if not, then that gave him more of a reason to not tell the truth.

Great Master Wan walked to Zhou Li’s front, put one hand on his head, closed his eyes and muttered a few words silently, then said, “There is something unclean on his body, stained by evil spirits.”

Zhou Li was taken aback for a moment.

He only stayed to watch out of curiostiy but he didn’t expect it to be true. He didn’t know whether this so-called ‘evil spirit’ was referring to him, so he asked, “What evil spirit?”

Great Master Wan said, “Ones who had abnormal deaths and are now carrying grudges, those types of imps.”

Zhou Li went silent.

He did die rather abnormally, but he didn’t really feel like he was holding grudges over it. But, it was also an indisputable fact that he was able to come out in broad daylight even after death, so maybe this evil spirit really was referring to him?

Qian Duoshu said, “Is there a way?”

Great Master Wan said, “We can just dispel it away.”

Zhou Li blinked, then realised.

This meant he will be dissipating soon.

To be honest, he was a little reluctant.

Young Master Zhou was not a saint. After living through sickness, he knew even more about the preciousness of life. But he was reluctant to give up, even though it was he who took over another person’s body. Now that someone was asking him to return to before, he really can’t say “no”.

He saw Qian Duoshu obeying the master’s instructions, moving the stool to the centre of the living room, where he walked over to sit down compliantly. For a moment, he wanted to explain his situation with a few words, but with so many eyes looking at him, everything he would say seemed to be too revealing. If this master turned out to be a fraud, then there would be no way for him to clearly explain himself in the future. Besides, the video has already been recorded, so the rest will be up to Qian Liye.

He closed his eyes and waited for relief.

Great Master Wan took out three incense sticks and lit them up then, while muttering under his breath, started to circle around him.

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

He looked at Qian Duoshu who wore a serious expression, then at the silly fool that seemed to be enjoying himself, then finally at the babbling great master. Silence.

He’s been here three days. The first day, the father beat his son; the second day, the father and son were mutually brutal.

On the third day, the neuropathic father and son finally did not end up fighting. Instead, they joined arms to engage in feudal superstition.

How very competent of them.

Young Master Ji was displeased every day. Glancing at them with a look which could only mean “caring for the mentally handicapped”, he turned around and returned to his room.

The author has something to say:

Zhou Li: Goodbye to this world, loved it.

  1. There is a long way to go indeed before there is progress in this relationship! Poor Zhou Li! I’m glad this is written as a comedy because it has plenty of angst opportunities if the author was so inclined.

Thanks for your hard work translating!

  2. Imagine what would happen if that Great Master was actually the real deal. Since the original is no more (right?) and the MC would be gone too, it would look like he killed him xD now that would at the same time be much more boring and much more exciting than the actual story XDDD
    Thank you~

  3. Poor ML’s mental health? Hahaha
I hope the dad would learn not to beat up his son though. That’s what he can address directly first rather than finding a healer.

    Thanks for the update! 💕
