Husky’s Side Chapter 16

Life-Saving Days by the Husky’s Side
An overly concerned owner

Zhou Li had no habit of sleeping in and woke up early as usual the following day. Seeing that Young Master Ji was also awake, he pulled the other into his arms and cuddled him for a few minutes while rubbing the other’s fur.  He greeted the dog with a good morning and got up to take a quick shower before taking the other out for a walk.

After they returned home and filled their stomachs with breakfast, he washed Uncle Dog’s two food and water bowls, placing them in a plastic bag.

Qian Duoshu didn’t have to work overtime this Saturday. Seeing him pack up the dog’s things, he thought for a moment that his classmate had returned from his trip and he was give the dog back, but looking closely. He realised that the packed bowls were their own. Even if he were giving the dog back, there was no reason to add on two bowls as a gift. He asked, “You’re taking it to work with you?”

“No.” Zhou Li would’ve straightforwardly declared his distrust in the man but he was afraid the other will explode on the spot, so he spouted some nonsense. “Xiao Wu likes the husky. He heard that I was working today and I wanted to borrow him to play for a bit. I’ll pick him up after I’m done with work.”

Qian Duoshu rebuted, “Still, there is no need to bring a bowl.”

Zhou Li said, “I’m afraid he won’t eat if the bowls are temporarily changed.”

The truth was, the information in his mind showed that dogs fed in rural areas were given their meals in random broken bowls or something found in the trash, basically anything that can hold a meal for the dog. Regardless of whether the object being used as a food vessel was clean or not, they still did things like this. If he let Young Master Ji eat from something like this, he will probably be starved for a day.

Qian Duoshu sneered. “I’ve never heard of dogs giving up on eating once their bowls were changed.”

Zhou Li said, “It’s not much anyway, I’ll just take it with me bei.”

As he spoke, he took a quick peek at the time. Carrying the plastic bag, he picked up Uncle Dog and said bye to Qian Duoshu, then went downstairs and headed straight to the small supermarket.

The supermarket was next to the open-air farmer’s market with a bus stop nearby, along with a newly built but small fitness park. He and Xiao Wu agreed to meet in the small park.

Xiao Wu’s family lived in the countryside but his village wasn’t too far from this area. It took about ten minutes to walk here, which was very convenient. Zhou Li bought a bottle of mineral water in the supermarket and took it along with him to the small park. He saw that Xiao Wu had already arrived.

“Ying-ge.” Xiao Wu saw him and immediately snuffed out the cigarette in his hand, walking forward to greet him.

Zhou Li smelled the lingering smoke on his body, and persuaded the other, “Stop smoking. Look at me, I’ve already quit. Besides, if Lin Ye was able to to pull you into a trap because of this, who’s to say there won’t be a second time.”

Xiao Wu recalled the past few days and realised that he hadn’t seen him smoke at all recently. Thinking of what happened yesterday, he happily agreed, “Okay, I’ll quit.”

Zhou Li handed Uncle Dog over to him and said, “If he drinks water directly from the taps, it’ll hurt his tummy. Take this bottle of water, you can give to him instead. For his food, just buy the stuff I got for him yesterday. I’ll transfer the money back to you via WeChat tomorrow.”

Xiao Wu rushed to say that there was no need, and held the husky in his arms, writing down the instructions carefully.

“If I’m giving it to you, just take it. When you’re making money yourself, then you can tell me no.” Zhou Li finished his spiel and glanced at the quiet Uncle Dog. Unable to hold back, he grasped the little brother’s hand tightly. “I will pass on my family’s Eggy to you temporarily. You must take good care of him. If he comes across an unexpected misfortune, there will be no reason for me to continue living.”

This was the first time Xiao Wu had been stared at by Ying-ge with such sincere and pitiful eyes. A shiver ran down his spine. Two words came up in his mind: Dog slave.

Unexpectedly, the vicious and merciless Ying-ge still has this unseen side of himself. He endured the urge to pull at the corners of his mouth and promised, “Don’t worry ba, Ying-ge, I will absolutely look after it carefully.”

Zhou Li said, “He was traumatised and is a little foolish. You must watch him attentively, don’t let anyone wrong him.”

Xiao Wu: “Okay.”

Zhou Li said, “If he wants to come out to go on a little trip, you must hold him still, otherwise he’ll be caught and sold.”

Xiao Wu: “Okay.”

Zhou Li said, “If he lies down and is contemplating his life, you don’t need to disturb him, just let him stay quietly in the corner for him to pass his years.”

Xiao Wu: “…Okay.”

Zhou Li thought for a while and felt that everything that should be explained was explained. He finally gave Uncle Dog’s fur a good rub, then set off to the bus stop alone.

Xiao Wu had nothing to do. Seeing how Ying-ge was so reluctant, he chose to follow the other to wait for the bus together at the stop, planning to he’d back home once Ying-ge got on the bus. Zhou Li was very happy and took back Uncle Dog to hug.

A dog’s sense of smell was too sensitive. When Ji Shaoyan was held in Xiao Wu’s arms just then, all he smelled was the stink of cigarette smoke. It was so intense that it was irritating.

Surrounded by the familiar scent at this moment, he couldn’t help but sniff twice. He realised, for the first time since he was picked up, that the silly fool’s embrace was very comfortable.

Zhou Li didn’t know of feelings and fluffed up his fur out of habit. He didn’t let go of the puppy until the bus came. When the time arrived, he handed the little guy over to the little brother and hopped on the bus with three steps and two head turns backwards.

The mall opened at ten o’clock and Zhou Li arrived on time at 9:30, following Qin-jie’s request. He got familiar with the environment and changed into his work clothes.

When he came out after changing his clothes, Tao Shanshan and Song Yingshi had already arrived. The two travelled to the nearby neighbourhood for breakfast and arrived together. When they walked in, the lifted their heads and saw someone cleaning the glass case.

Tao Shanshan immediately squeezed her friend’s hand excitedly and whispered, “Look, it’s him!”

Song Yingshi looked in his direction.

Zhou Li had also noticed them through the glass casing and turned around with a smile. Then, his expression froze.

Song Yingshi stared at him. “It’s you?!”

Zhou Li pretended to be shocked with just the right amount. “It’s you?”

Tao Shanshan looked between the two. Her curiosity reached its peak in just a few seconds and her eyes were full of gossip. “You two know each other?”

Zhou Li touched his nose. “En, I’ve angered her before.”

Tao Shanshan became even more curious. “Why?”

Zhou Li said awkwardly, “Just… I lost a bet with a friend and asked for her contact info. I asked her several times. You understand how it is.”

Tao Shanshan suddenly dragged out a long “oh” sound. Without waiting for her comments, Zhou Li hurriedly interrupted, “Don’t, she and I aren’t even friends, it’s not what you think. Don’t make a fool of yourself, things like this often makes things difficult for girls.”

Slightly unexpectedly, even to herself, Song Yingshi glanced at him.

Tao Shanshan stopped talking as soon as he spoke, eyes rocking back and forth between them again. She said, “Then since you two aren’t acquainted with each other, you’re both colleagues now. Make peace bei.

Song Yingshi lightly hummed.

Zhou Li knew her acting like this was because when the original owner blocked her path in the past, that guy chose to let his mouth run freely and flirted frivolously. He smiled at them kindly then turned to continue wiping down the glass.

Tao Shanshan looked at her friend, with some obvious questions in her eyes.

Song Yingshi acted as if she didn’t see it and went into the changing room without looking back. Tao Shanshan stopped her inquiries when she saw this scene and followed her in to put on their work clothes.

The mall quickly opened, and the number of customers continued to increase.

Zhou Li mustered up the sprit to do work. Unless it was something really important, he basically didn’t take the initiative to talk to Song Yingshi at all and did whatever he needed to do. When it was near noon time, he heard Qin-jie saying that she needed someone to pass out a round of flyers, so he took on all the sheets of paper so the young ladies in the store wouldn’t have to go out to bathe in the sun. After he finished handing them out, he came back into to eat, then immediately went on to advertise and sell cameras. He was very dedicated to this work.

He had a good image and a good temperament. Not only was he talented in flattering others, he also had a sharp vision and was good at picking customers. By the end of the day, he sold four cameras alone.

Qin-jie grinned from ear to ear and handed him 50 yuan straight out of her own pocket.

Tao Shanshan also looked at him with sparkling eyes, and when she got off work, she began to let out everything she had kept in her heart. “He is so handsome ah, and he definitely had a great upbringing. He’s very much like those guys in our school. Are you sure he really doesn’t have any motives towards you? “

Song Yingshi said, “None.”

Tao Shanshan repeated, “Are you really sure?”

“I’m sure.” Song Yingshi sent her a look. “Want to chase him?”

“Not chasing.” Tao Shanshan wriggled shyly. “I’ll just be a face dog* and quietly watch him. Besides, I’ve already asked for the little Gege’s WeChat.”

[T/N: like a face-con]

Song Yingshi was speechless and walked out after changing her clothes.

Zhou Li patiently waited for them to finishing changing before he allowed himself in to swap his work clothes for the T-shirt he came here in. After they left, he walked side by side with Song Yingshi to the bus stop. They lived in the same area and took had to take the same bus route, so they agreed to go head together during the afternoon.

Song Yingshi snuck a few glimpses at him while they walked, feeling very confused.

One day. This was enough time for her to observe and make an evaluation of someone, and the person in front of her was like a person whose soul was completely switched with another. He was not the same person as the bastard she had previously come into contact with.

Zhou Li noticed her gaze and remained cool as he let her continue to look.

Song Yingshi was a kindhearted person, but she was not a naïve idiot. To top it all off, the author also gave her a skill, which was the ability to perceive other people’s emotions, likes, and dislikes. In the original text, she could sense that Ji Shaoyan, who always wore a gentle face, was actually usually in a poor mood. For this reason, more rounds of sweetness with thrown about.

That’s why he felt it would be a breeze to gain her favourability with an extremely simple plan: just let her sense it for herself. If she takes the initiative to ask more, that’ll be even better.

He was probably hit with great luck. As soon as this thought arose, he heard Song Yingshi ask, “Seriously, what’s the matter with you?”

Zhou Li smiled and said, “Sometimes, the truth will sound a little bit ridiculous. Will you believe me?”

Song Yingshi said, “Say it first.”

Zhou Li tilted his head down to look at his own body. He motioned for her to look and pointed at a scar on his arm, then lifted his T-shirt’s hem by a little to reveal the scar on his waist.

Song Yingshi was confused. “What are you doing?”

Zhou Li dropped his clothes and said, “My dad has violent tendencies, and he often beats me. All these scars are from him.”

Song Yingshi eyes widened with shock. “Ah?”

Zhou Li continued, “Living in such an environment for a long time, I became stubborn, short-tempered, ignorant and incompetent. I solved everything using my fists. Those few times you saw me, that was my other personality. I am the second personality of this body. My name is Zhou Li.”

Song Yingshi stared straight into his eyes. “——Ah?!

Zhou Li smiled and said, “It’s a bit much, right?”

It really is a bit much.

But Song Yingshi just looked at the person whose temperament had changed dramatically and could only believe him. She asked, “Then, will your other personality come out?”

“It’s possible, but even I’m not that sure.” Zhou Li gravely looked at her. “If you happen to come across him again, remember to stay away. He really does have the intention to toy with you. That guy ba…you understand.”

This was the first time Song Yingshi has ever met someone stuck in this special scenario. Seeing him sternly warn her to stay away from himself, all the whilst complaining about his own personality, she felt a tiny urge to laugh for a moment. “En, I understand.”

When Zhou Li heard her understanding tone, he knew that the task to gain her favour was complete.

So he struck the iron while it was still hot. “I gave my husky to a friend so he can be taken care of and I’m picking him up since we’re off work. Do you want to come with me? I’ll let you hug him, as an apology on behalf of my other self.”

Song Yingshi’s eyes lit up instantly. “Okay ah!”

The two took the bus back to Xiangman Town and went straight to the small park.

Zhou Li had sent Xiao Wu a text before they boarded the bus. When they arrived, they happened to see Xiao Wu coming over with the husky in his arms. He scrambled over to the human-dog duo and took Uncle Dog back into his embrace, ruffling his fur all over. “Eggy, I’m back.”

Ji Shaoyan took a glimpse at Silly Fool.

He was unhappy for the entire day.

Unfamiliar environments, unfamiliar smells.

What Xiao Wu put in his designated box was an unnecessary piece of clothing with a musty odor. The neighbour’s bear child ran over and pulled on his ears three times. Those who rarely came across huskies directly pushed at the dog with their feet, although they were soon caught and stopped by Xiao Wu. The boy let him lie there for an entire day but he still felt as if he was waiting for a much longer time.

At this moment, enveloped by the familiar scent and comforted by the feeling of a hand stroking his fur, his poor mood couldn’t help but ease. Just as he was about to sniff this person a few times, his body was suddenly floating in mid-air.

Ji Shaoyan: ?

The next second, Silly Fool handed him forward, and his body suddenly fell into a stranger’s hold.

Song Yingshi hugged the husky and joyfully exclaimed, “Ah, it’s so meng* ya!”

[T/N: extremely cute]

Ji Shaoyan: “……”

The author has something to say:

Young Master Ji: You are dead. Silly Fool, you are dead.

Idk Young Master Ji, wanting to be enveloped in Zhou Li’s scent sounds a little

  2. As always, just when the potential for a feelings upgrade to happen occurs, ZL ruins it! Of course JSY is just going to think he’s a prop. He remembers well the original body. Still, change is slowly and against his better judgment percolating. It starts with that subconscious acceptance of ZL’s scent after all!

Thanks for your hard work translating!

  3. Young Master Ji, you should reciprocate a little bit – Zhou Li serves you like an ancestor and you only know how to appreciate it when left in the care of others 😉
