TSIFB Chapter 14

穿成校草被迫营业 / Transmigrated into a School Idol and Forced to Do Business
The next time I see you, bring me two pieces of candy

Just when Yu Baizhou felt that he was about to take the full brunt of his father’s love, Fu Xia thankfully stepped out, appeased his father-in-law, relieved the conflict, then handed him a bowl of soup to let him visit his classmate’s mother.

Presented with an opening, Yu Baizhou dared not to stay in this hot and stuffy place for even a second longer and quickly took the wrapped bowl before slipping away.

Walking in the hospital corridor, Yu Baizhou felt that his life was really too difficult. If he followed the plot, he was dead. If he strayed away from the plot, he was also dead. Anything he did, he will die. He was so miserable, even the ants scuttling across the floor felt pitiful when they saw him.

Yu Baizhou wandered around the hospital for a long time, and unconsciously turned to enter another department.

According to the contents of the book, after arguing with Yu Chen, the original owner accidentally went to the department where He Yan’s mother was staying. Then, in the corridor, he encountered He Yan, who had just come out of the doctor’s office.

The department that Yu Baizhou was about to go into was the place where he and He Yan will meet later.

Afraid that the plot will come knocking on the door by itself like before, Yu Baizhou didn’t go in immediately. Instead, he waited by the door, quietly observing the situation at the other end of the corridor. There were not many people in the hospital’s hallway. Other than the doctors and nurses who were constantly running in and out of various rooms, they were just a few patients or family members sitting in the chairs outside the wards.

Sure enough, after waiting for around five minutes, He Yan came out of the doctor’s office.

Now, he only needed to reposition the time he meets He Yan in the corridor.

He really didn’t want to fight with He Yan like in the plot.

Yu Baizhou originally thought that he would have to wait at the door for a long time, but he didn’t expect for He Yan to directly enter the ward once leaving the office.

Isn’t this wrong??

In the plot, after He Yan learnt that his mother was seriously ill, because of the long-term suppression of his emotions, in addition to the unrelievable pain in his heart, he was unable to accept the situation he was stuck in. Not wanting to worry his mother, He Yan sat alone in the corridor for a long time before he calmly entered the ward.

But now, this plot point never happened.

What’s going on?

A few doctors passed by while talking, pulling Yu Baizhou out from his thoughts and helping him remember that he was still carrying the bowl of chicken soup. Worried that the soup in his hands would become cold if he waited any longer, he forced his mind to move away from thinking too deeply about the current situation and quickly walked towards the room.

To be honest, with things such as visiting an ill person all alone, this was his first time. Before he had even reached the door of the ward, Yu Baizhou started to become nervous.

Since the other party was He Yan’s mother, and because he and He Yan did not have one of those ‘very, very familiar’ relationships, Yu Baizhou suddenly felt that abruptly appearing in this person’s ward…was a little presumptuous.

008: “I feel like you need me.”

At this time, 008, who had shrunken back in its shell for the past few days, had finally come out to run around.

Hearing it, Yu Baizhou wanted to hit someone. “You still know it? I thought you went out to travel the world.”

008: “Didn’t I just go to repairs for a few days?”

Yu Baizhou: “……”

008 could read his thoughts knew what he was hesitating about, so he urged him without thinking, “Go in. If a man wants to succeed, he has to be bold.”

Yu Baizhou: “I can’t, I feel a little faceless.”

008: “Which is more important: your face or your dads?”

Yu Baizhou: “Shut up, give me some quiet.”

008: “What if you can take a mile from this inch*? Right now, He Yan is going through his most helpless time.”

[T/N: What if you can turn this small step into a big step: turn this chance into a big opportunity]

Yu Baizhou: “…Let me think about it again.”

Yu Baizhou pondered over his predicament, walking back and forth in front of He Yan’s mother’s ward unconsciously a few times, but never developed the courage to go in.

Just as when he was about to pass by for the fifth time, a person came out of the room. Yu Baizhou was looking down at the floor, neglecting his front, and had almost knocked his head into the man’s arm by accident.

The familiar fragrance floated over to his nose. It was a scent that could not be described by comparing it to plants or flowers, more like a natural fragrance. It was very nice.

Yu Baizhou raised his head and, as expected, saw He Yan. When they made eye contact, He Yan did not seem to appear surprised. Yu Baizhou began to think about the ways he could to start a conversation, as well as how to explain the reason why he would come to this department. He saw He Yan give him an inspecting gaze, before lightly saying, “Don’t tell me that the thing you want to send me is soup.”

Yu Baizhou suddenly understood what He Yan meant by his words and quickly lifted the bowl of soup in his hand. With a red face, he clarified embarrassedly, “Of course not, this…this soup is for Auntie. The things I send you, I will give to you at school. That’s right, I came here to see Auntie.”

“Came here to see my mother? “

“En.”

He Yan’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly. “You’re quite active.”

“???”

Before Yu Baizhou had managed to deduce the meaning of He Yan’s “active”, a weak voice came from inside the ward. “Ah-Yan*, who are you talking to?”

[T/N: “阿衍”/Ah-Yan: like ‘xiao’, ‘ah’ is an affectionate term]

He Yan heard the question and entered the ward.

Since He Yan never refused, Yu Baizhou assumed that he was given permission to visit, and followed the other into the ward.

On the hospital bed laid a skinny-looking woman. Due to the long-term illness, every sense of life had been drained away from her appearance. The originally delicate facial features were now taken over by fatigue and fragility. She was wearing an oxygen mask, and because she was probably exhausted, her eyes wasn’t opened all the way.

Although Yu Baizhou had mentally prepared himself before going in, after laying his eyes on the sick appearance of He Yan’s mother, his heart still couldn’t help but hold some uncomfortable feelings.

He Rou looked at the unfamiliar boy in front of him, and then moved her eyes slowly over to He Yan. She seemed to want He Yan to introduce her to the boy.

Yu Baizhou reacted first. Before waiting for He Yan to speak, he introduced himself first and handed the nutrient-filled soup to He Yan, reminding him to cool it down before serving it to Auntie. Every action was packed with consideration.

He Rou kept her eyes on the two by the bedside. Her son had been lonely since childhood, disliking even the thought of playing with the children around him. In the past, He Rou was always worried that he would have a hard time making friends at school, but today she saw everything clearly with her own eyes. With such a good and caring friend, the grip around her heart loosened considerably

He Yan saw the emotions in He Rou’s eyes. He felt some guilt in his heart.

Yu Baizhou had originally planned to just drop off the soup before leaving, but unexpectedly, He Rou suddenly gained some spirit. She began to make inquiries to him about He Yan’s school life, asking if he had many friends or not.

Yu Baizhou glanced at He Yan while the latter looked away. Yu Baizhou understood that this was a signal that allowed him to act freely, so then he began to exaggerate and exclaimed, “Many, very many! Also, He Yan’s grades are especially good, every time we have exams, he is always the first in our grade. He is way too incredible; in class, many students look up to him as a role model.”

Yu Baizhou talked to He Rou all about He Yan’s school life…although two-thirds of it was just stuff he randomly made up in his brain.

However, seeing He Rou’s smiling face, lying a little didn’t seem like such a big matter.

The two happily chatted to each other. Some unknown person passing by the door asked for the date, and another responded that it was September 23rd.

September 23rd… September 26th…

They had already arrived at the last three days.

Thinking about how after three days, the woman with a smile on her face at this moment would leave the world because of her serious illness, Yu Baizhou was unable to life his spirits.

He glanced at He Yan beside him.

Yu Baizhou had also lost his mother once. Although he was young at the time, he still realised how painful it was to experience the death of a loved one.

The people who passed on suffered pain until they left forever, but the rest who stayed would have to endure an even more severe pain.

He seemed to see his own shadow on He Yan.

Beside him, He Yan didn’t speak a word and pressed his lips together tightly, as if he had already known everything and accepted it as usual.

As it became darker, Yu Baizhou felt that it was time for him to leave. Yu Chen and Fu Xia had already left the hospital first, and now Uncle Li was waiting for him at the hospital entrance.

When he was about to leave, He Rou told He Yan to go out and send him off. Even though Yu Baizhou refused, He Rou still maintained her kind and polite attitude.

Yu Baizhou didn’t want to hurt her feelings and agreed in the end.

The two walked to the door of the hospital. Uncle Li’s car was parked across the road, and when Yu Baizhou felt that he had been accompanied enough, he asked He Yan to go back first, thought of something, then called for He Yan to stop again.

He Yan turned his head back. The orange street lights outlined his jaw and the straight nose underneath the pair of glasses. Only now did Yu Baizhou discover that not only did He Yan have good looking eyes, even his facial features were pleasing to look at.

Seeing that Yu Baizhou didn’t speak, He Yan took the initiative to ask, “What is it?”

It was mentioned in the book that the time He Rou left was in the early morning of the 26th. At that time, He Yan originally had time to take care of her, but because he was bullied at school the day before, he became worried that He Rou would panic over him when she saw the injury on his face. That night, he didn’t go to the hospital, and it was this skipped visit that caused him to miss the last moments of He Rou.

This incident later became a wound in He Yan’s heart, and he continued to sink further as time went on. His academic performance declined, his personality became more and more abnormal, and it even affected his ways of handling things later on.

Yu Baizhou thought about it for a while, then said, “These two days, you should spend more time with Auntie. Even if you don’t go to school and the teacher asks, I will cover for you. Especially the day after tomorrow. You shouldn’t come to school that day.”

Hearing Yu Baizhou’s words, He Yan narrowed his eyes. “Why?”

He Yan’s voice was as calm as always, but somehow, Yu Baizhou heard a few degrees of harshness, and his heart couldn’t help but tense.

“It’s just…” He made up an excuse. “People who are ill are also more delicate, and it’s hard on them to be all alone. In short, you should just spend more time with Auntie.”

He can only help up to here.

After Yu Baizhou finished speaking, he thought that this conversation was over. However, he didn’t expect for He Yan to approach him with a steady pace. As he came closer, the faint fragrance became more and more evident.

The aura emanating from He Yan’s body made him subconsciously retreat until his back hit the lamppost of the street lamp. He was forced to a stop.

As He Yan leaned over, the light above them was blocked, and Yu Baizhou was unable to see the expression on He Yan’s face. He nervously slid his clenched fists in his pockets. “I…don’t mean anything else. I’m just worried about you and Auntie.”

He Yan’s eyes fell on the person’s face that was softly outlined by the lights, his clean forehead, the curled eyelashes that opened and closed from time to time, the delicate tip of the nose, the lips that were slightly closed due to tension…and, the pair of eyes that were clean and pure, without any trace of impurity.

He Yan’s eyes flickered up. From the first moment he laid eyes on him, this person he made him puzzled, and, made him curious…

He Yan asked, slowly and cautiously, “Tell me, can I believe you?”

Yu Baizhou was unable to understand the implications of He Yan’s words. “What are you talking about?”

He Yan leaned even closer. Yu Baizhou’s back was already plastered to the lamppost behind him, so the distance between the two was now only a few centimetres. The hands in his pockets clenched tighter.

He Yan moved his eyes down, mentally outlining Yu Baizhou’s gentle lips. “Are the words spoken from your mouth credible?”

Yu Baizhou did not understand the previous sentence, but he seemed to grasp the meaning of the following sentence a bit more.

He Yan was probably questioning what he said, or at least questioning their brotherhood. It was completely understandable; if one day your enemy suddenly treated you well and told you that they want to be your brother, anyone would be hesitant. Since He Yan was willing to share the thoughts in his heart with him, then he must not be dismissive.

Thinking of this, Yu Baizhou suddenly felt that the aura emitted by the person in front of him wasn’t all that scary.

He raised his hands to grasp the arms on either side of He Yan and lightly pressed his fingertips in, his expression serious.

“I know that me suddenly becoming like this is difficult for you to accept, and I also know that it’s not easy for you to accept me. I used to be a bastard, and I did a lot of bad things to you, leaving a horrible impression of myself in your heart. I apologise to you. I’m sorry, I will definitely change in the future. As long as you are willing to give me a chance, I will definitely change, so you can believe me, okay?”

He Yan was astonished. He didn’t expect for Yu Baizhou to completely derail from his initial question, but after experiencing Yu Baizhou’s confession and admittance of his mistakes, and seeing the other waiting earnestly for his reply…

Believe him?

The first time Yu Baizhou helped him, he believed Yu Baizhou had a plan.

The second time Yu Baizhou approached him, he believed Yu Baizhou was bored.

The third time Yu Baizhou came to him, he believed Yu Baizhou was naive.

This time…

Yu Baizhou was desperately crying in his heart, just say okay, just say okay and answer laozi quickly.

He Yan gazed at the person in front of him, with a faint smile in his eyes. “Okay.”

The brilliant little spark exploded in Yu Baizhou’s heart, so splendid.

Uncle Li called him, prompting him to hurry.

Yu Baizhou let go of He Yan’s arms, a smile appearing on his face. “See you in two days.”

Once he spoke, he walked towards the road.

“Don’t forget, absolutely do not come to school the day after tomorrow,” Yu Baizhou urged once again.

Yu Baizhou had reached the road.

“Yu Baizhou.”

He Yan’s voice came from behind.

Yu Baizhou turned back. “En?”

He Yan stood under the street lamp, his relaxed shoulder line softly outlined by the glow of the yellow light. “The next time I see you, bring me two pieces of candy. Strawberry flavoured.”

Yu Baizhou’s face bloomed with another smile. “Okay.”
